Duration: 4 weeks — 1 session per week, 2 hours per sessionTarget group: Adults who are curious about drawing and want to build a strong foundation in sketching and charcoal techniques. No prior experience needed.Course descriptionThis course introduces students to the essential principles of sketching and charcoal drawing.Through step-by-step guidance, students will learn how to observe, measure, and capture shapes, light, and shadow. The focus will be on building confidence through simple subjects such as still life and dead nature objects.Weekly plan• Week 1 – Introduction to sketching: tools, posture, line exercises, basic shapes and proportions• Week 2 – Shading techniques: hatching, cross-hatching, blending and tonal values• Week 3 – Building a still life composition: structure, depth, and composition planning• Week 4 – Final project: full still life drawing in charcoal, fixative use and presentationMaterials needed(Only buy once we confirm whether the class will start)• Sketching paper or pad (any type suitable for sketching)• One sheet of 50x70 cm 120gsm paper (suggested: Canson)• Pencil set from HB to 8B (suggested: Faber-Castell 9000)• Charcoal sticks• Hairspray (as a fixative)Learning outcomesAfter completing this course, students will be able to:• Use a variety of pencils and charcoal confidently• Understand proportions, perspective and composition• Apply shading and blending to create depth• Produce a finished still life drawing using charcoaThe course is held in English.
