Target group: Adults whoarecuriousaboutdrawing and want to build a strongfoundation in sketching and charcoaltechniques. No prior experienceneeded.
Course description
This courseintroduces students to the essential principles of sketching and charcoaldrawing.
Through step-by-step guidance, students willlearnhow to observe, measure, and capture shapes, light, and shadow. The focuswillbe on buildingconfidencethrough simple subjects such as still life and dead nature objects.
Weekly plan
• Week 1 – Introduction to sketching: tools, posture, line exercises, basic shapes and proportions
• Week 2 – Shadingtechniques: hatching, cross-hatching, blending and tonal values
• Week 3 – Building a still lifecomposition: structure, depth, and compositionplanning
• Week 4 – Final project: full still lifedrawing in charcoal, fixativeuse and presentation
Materials needed
(Only buy once we confirm whether the class will start)
• Sketchingpaper or pad (any type suitable for sketching)
• One sheet of 50x70 cm 120gsm paper (suggested: Canson)
• Pencil set from HB to 8B (suggested: Faber-Castell 9000)
• Charcoalsticks
• Hairspray (as a fixative)
